Our Mission

To date, human beings have been threatened with a variety of pathogens. They were bacteria and viruses which were suddenly transmitted from wild animals, and some caused serious health damage to humans, and some caused outbreaks among domestic animals leading to huge economic damage. In spite of the progression of current medical technology, major infectious diseases are not controlled well, and besides, emerging and reemerging infectious diseases have occurred sporadically around the world. Therefore, the combat of human beings with viruses would go on.

We have focused on a family of RNA virus, Paramyxoviruses, and have investigated the mechanism underlying the pathogenesis of infectious diseases caused by them from various viewpoints. We have also developed therapeutics and vaccines for various infectious diseases taking advantage of the cutting-edge knowledge and original reverse-genetics technology.

Recently oncolytic viruses are expected to be a promising technology for cancer treatment. On our research history, we found a measles virus strain which had ideal characteristics as an oncolytic virus and are developing a novel cancer therapy using it.
